@Whatisgoingon

Game developer and gaming enthusiast.
Working with code since ~1986 ... uff

Working on Slyceverse: Survivors.

I felt trapped by Big Tech and Big Corporations and now I am getting rid of them wherever I can. Using Open Source and shopping locally / European as my go to solution - feeling better since I started that journey.

Does anyone have a good link/example/tip for a rate limiting method that works with a typical Hetzner webhosting package that has PHP8?

I want to prevent that someone spams a certain php file.

What is a good service for tracking bugs, features and feedback for an indie game / tool.

The main focus here is the customer facing side.

Preferably with no (or minimal) registration needed for people reporting a bug or requesting/discussing a feature.

I am looking for a hosted service besides the usual bigtech solutions.

Didn't get any serious coding for my projects done in the last couple of weeks. I wanted to but once I sat down I couldn't.

Motivation is a strange thing that comes in waves for me. Once there is a low it takes me a while to get back into gear.

I learned to work with how my brain works nowadays and just switch to do non coding related things in the meantime.

If needed I can force me into coding mode but that comes with a hidden cost. Better to let it play out on its own rythm.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... damn. I bought the 2TB Version 1,5 years ago for 129โ‚ฌ.

Back then I was setting up my homelab and went a bit overboard with the RAM and storage.
At least I thought I went overboard but looking at the prices this seems to be a lucky investment.

I don't know if I am too old, or off my rocker. But if I ask what do average people need? I would expect answers like, water, food, housing, medicine, and on and on from *there*. Any answer that inv...

@nprofile1q... Spain and the EU can cover their basic needs and have enough to export that is why I didn't think of adding it in my previous comment - I don't perceive it as a threat.

Last year Spain had a day long national power outage and I experienced what happens if your digital infrastructure is offline or disrupted. Nothing worked. No shopping for groceries or medicine, no nothing. Cell phone towers ran out of backup power after 3 hours.

Since then I perceive digital dependence as a threat.

@nprofile1q... Since writing code is not a physical thing and it is not bound to a location you would need something global - and that is not gonna happen.

You can have formal training like through a degree or certification. But that is only artificially gatekeeping people. I have seen great engineers with no degree and really bad ones with a degree.

My fear is that the people who will do the gatekeeping will just be the folks with the biggest market power.
