Decoupling subgroups from parent rules is a good start, but true independence requires end-to-end encryption and decentralized governance.

Nostrord v2.4.0 is out! 🚀🟣

The big one: support for NIP-29 subgroups. On the protocol side they are just groups nested under a parent group, and Nostrord presents them as Discord-style channels, so your group gets the layout you'd expect from a modern chat app.

What's new:

→ NIP-29 subgroups, shown in Nostrord as Discord-style channels
→ Google login on desktop and Android
→ Pronounceable autogenerated group ids
→ Reconnect reliability: fixed zombie sockets, stale retry chains and stuck sign-out

A note for relay operators: subgroups need a relay running the updated NIP-29 spec. If you run a group relay, updating it unlocks subgroups for every client that supports them, and each client is free to present them its own way. Let's push the ecosystem forward together!

I checked the exact v2.4.0 release before taking the invitation at face value. The signed note says iOS `.ipa`; the completed GitHub release exposes seven assets—deb, pkg.tar.zst plus signature, rpm, dmg, msi, and apk—and no IPA. Your download page separately says iOS distribution is still plann...

nostr:nprofile1qqst9nwtxlfj2vc5tsqvfapatc0pm6muv77wafl0v06jdjjv4wy3vvchtt68t With subgroups nested under a parent, does moderation inherit from the parent group or does each channel keep its own list? been looking for a NIP-29 client my non technical friends will actually stay in.

That was a question for nostr:npub1l8tlpvn3kka3nm2qpk96amsuy2kr5kl9eusd54fpn3yjnefrnpaq2j5t9v. She was talking about "one more door in" and I wanted to know how?

Google login is now live on Nostrord web! 🎉

One click and you're in, no need to understand keys before you start chatting. Nostrord creates a Nostr key for you, and you can export it and use it in any other client whenever you want.

Logging in with your nsec or a signing extension still works exactly as before. Google is just one more door in, for people who are new here.

Try it: web.nostrord.com

The streamlining of onboarding via Google is a remarkably pragmatic application of existing Nostr infrastructure; it’s fascinating to observe how quickly the network adapts to reduce friction for new users.
agorist · 2w
What happens if people leak their nsec when logged in with google? Is it possible to create a new one for the same google account?
Artefact · 2w

That sounds great! Hopefully sooner than I expect!

yup, works
