Listen, I’m as ‘end the Fed’ as any bitcoiner around, but after the week we’ve had can we please acknowledge that Trump’s pressuring on J Powell is the latest in a series of upended and broken governmental norms and conventions that is alarming and needs to be pushed back on… hard.
There are now clear signs from the local to the global level that unless you are an ally of his administration your days are numbered and you are under threat. Whilst some may be happy with the courses taken and the outcome there’s no escaping the realization that what separates you from falling foul of this wrath is compliance. You may agree with everything now, but one day you may not and in a fair and just society your opposition should not result in erasure or policing.
Yes, in many ways Trump with Venezuela demonstrated that international order exists in an anarchic state with no transnational power or enforcement, hence he could act without consequence. But through events in Minnesota, the framing of the narrative around it, the establishment of judicial branch authorities directly under his control, attacks on the free press and the attacks on appointed officials we’re seeing a coordinated effort to morph the USA into a highly authoritarian state.
Best to start speaking up. Cause doesn’t look like people will have long.
