A long-running lawsuit claiming that a private prison contractor broke federal and Colorado law by forcing immigration detainees to work moved closer to trial Wednesday after the Supreme Court unanimously rejected a bid by the company to toss out the case.

The contractor, GEO Group, asserted it was entitled to immunity and should not face a civil trial because the firm’s detainee work policies were carried out at the direction of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.


The class-action lawsuit, filed in 2014, focused on practices at GEO’s facility in Aurora, Colorado. Immigration detainees there were required to clean all common areas and faced possible solitary confinement for failing to comply. They were offered $1 a day for work preparing food and cleaning laundry at a time when the state’s minimum wage was $8 an hour.

I'm not a coder so I'm expressing my skepticism specifically as a member of camp 1 (fancy google search).

Analogy: Michael Knight asks KITT what modifications need to be made to allow them to successfully jump across the canyon.

Fictional TV show KITT's response would be either it's impossible or here's a list of stuff Bonnie needs to do to ensure success.

LLM KITT would give Michael a lengthy list of stuff to do, wait for him to get stuck on the last step, then puke up an annoying confirmation like "Good catch, Michael! Indeed, my body composition would not be able to withstand the forces of a JATO rocket strapped to my T-top."

For me the problem is "I know all the answers in the universe, but I'm gonna give you the wrong answer at least 15% of the time. Have fun figuring out which answer is incorrect."

An "I'm not sure" from a 9-fingered shop teacher is more comforting and less of a time-suck than some of the advice I've gotten from AI.

God let's hope so.

I'm skeptical that a stationary phone is producing NO useful data for them but if that's true, I bet they're frustrated by the seemingly viral adoption of policies requiring students to lock up their phones when they get to school.
