Would it be possible for a smartphone OEM to release an update that intentionally caused a slight degradation in the accuracy of the touch panel so users get frustrated and upgrade to the newest model? 🤔

With non open source OS this needs to be expected.

I suppose a lot of it depends on whether they were using Coldcards themselves and not just flashing the freebie they may have received as part of the sponsor deal because if that was the case, they were as much at risk as their followers were.

As Jeff Booth so often says, the problem is us. We can sniff out superficial or outright paid reviews on Amazon but just assume that a chiseled bitcoiner with a blonde streak could possibly have enough time to deep-level inspect every single product they review (the editing of which by itself is probably an enormous time-suck).

We all got got.

Another possible dangerous assumption is that muh institutions that people like Cardone and Saylor have so much faith in were/are using little more than Coldcards.

This is the elephant in the room.

Too bad they couldn't have gotten John McAfee to declare the Coldcard 'un-hackable', it might not have taken so long for this vulnerability to be exposed.

Random probably retarded thought:
Any chance this whole BIP-110 push is some Art of the Deal thing where you ask for more than you're willing to accept? Ex: insist everyone flip the bit but the acceptable win is everyone just stops running Core?

Self custody is what it's gonna take to keep the rehypothecation wolves at bay. Without it, Bitcoin is just digital paper gold.

You didn't get lazy and leave your stack on an exchange. You put in the work and got a big shit sandwich for your troubles.
