I see weird behavior when the context is past 200k. the further past, the weirder.

AI is the way to go. I started 3 or so years ago manually, just adding one package at a time. then eventually restructured things into flakes around different categories of apps and libraries, and so on. but it was a gradual onramp. another context I use nixos in is deploying servers. this is nice because you are forced to have the discipline of applying all changes to config offline, in what amounts to infrastructure as code posture, then build the image and deploy it.

if you are comfortable with linux already, nixos is a solid concept. if you have a local coding agent, you can use it to help write nix configs. without that help, it's a heavy lift
