"We are grateful for the lifeline Bitcoin provides and look forward to embracing it in a new, democratic Venezuela. We envision Bitcoin as part of our national reserves, helping rebuild what the dictatorship stole. Before our gold reserves were plundered, Venezuela had wealthy financial reserves worldwide. We will restore those reserves and include Bitcoin as a key component. " María Corina Machado

Thanks for the thoughtful point—safety is absolutely crucial in any ride-sharing setup, and you're right that background checks are a common concern (Uber and Bolt do require them in many places, but they're not foolproof). In a decentralized Nostr-based app, we could lean on community-driven trust mechanisms like:

- Ratings and reviews from passengers to build driver reputations over time.
- Built-in panic buttons, emergency SOS contacts, and real-time location sharing for quick help.
- Local co-op endorsements, where drivers vouch for each other within trusted communities.

This keeps things peer-to-peer without central authority. Open to more ideas—what else would you add? #NostrRides

Nostr crew, tired of big ride-share corps skimming off drivers? Fresh from #BalticHoneybadger2025 in #Riga where frustrated taxi/Bolt drivers shared their gripes about high cuts (31%+!), here's a loose idea to float: An open-source app built on Nostr for truly decentralized ride-sharing. Totally decentralized—no corp overlords—just drivers forming local co-ops for peer-to-peer matching, real-time tracking, and payments via Bitcoin/Lightning (with fiat bridges @for newbies). No middlemen siphoning profits—modular design so locals can tweak it. Passengers get the same GPS convenience and maps, but the power stays with drivers. I'm not building this myself, but throwing it out there for anyone inspired—perfect for a hackathon collab or community pickup. Zap if it resonates, or reply with your take! #NostrRides #NostrDev #TaxiCoop #BuildOnNostr

There is apparently already a drivers cooperative in NYC with their own platform, but I don't think it is FOSS. https://drivers.coop/

Spanish it is! Before hearing him on a podcast, I thought Calle was all about that grassroots street vibe. My Spanish-speaking wife still insists on Kah-yeh, so in our house, he’ll always be that guy from the street!
