Moved my daughter back into college this past weekend. Caught some virus/bug being around so many people. Tested negative for COVID. Still feel like crap! I am a miserable sick person. 🤧

Bitkey has a model where you are trusting bitkey. If you are uncomfortable with that model you should not use their product

I tested their emergency recovery kit. It works without any block hot keys being used. It’s a standalone Bitkey app APK that only works on android but it’s important to have to the app preloaded on the recovery phone so block can’t rug the app from GitHub one day.

See im not going with multi vendor multi sig to me thats asking for trouble one day…

My setup is 24 words dice roll seed phrase + strong passphrase for the main stack with seedsigner.

As soon as CC hack happened I was able to move my funds having memorized seed phrase which shows immense power given I was 6 hour flight away from device. So I’m keeping that benefit but going with my own entropy this time.

The smaller stack I’m going with Bitkey to keep life easier for my family.

As soon as CC hack happened I was able to move my funds having memorized seed phrase which shows immense power given I was 6 hour flight away. So I’m keeping that benefit but going with my own entropy this time.

Which is safer, multisig with closed source and no direct access to keys, or single sig with open source and key access? Opinions?

I’m going with both options. Main stack under open source and key access. Smaller stack multisig no direct access to keys. Smaller stack as backup for inheritance purposes

I’m playing with both options also. I just setup my first actual multi-sig and wasn’t so hard. You can do cool things like 2of3 and one is a Sparrow hot key. Or 3of4 with a Sparrow hot key and still requiring 2 HW wallets. Also playing with which keys should I use for true multi-sig: nostr:npub...

Any guides out there on how to generate a strong passphrase? You mention dice generated passphrase but given that a passphrase can be literally anything would it not be better to make it random instead of dice related to BIP39 words?

One passphrase away from losing my last 5 years worth of time & energy.

All those overtime hours and sacrifices, staying humble, stacking sats could have been wiped out in an instant over sloppy code.

Absolutely shameful for those that designed the coldcard product and respected Bitcoin influencers who shill these products non stop for years as being the gold standard.

Sorry for those impacted by this. Don’t know how I would have felt today if it weren’t for my passphrase.
