I've been listening to Ministry's "The Land of Rape and Honey" on repeat lately and consider it a nearly perfect album but there are a few annoying edgelordy things about it that make me roll my eyes. Starting with the title itself. (A reference to the former town motto of Tisdale, Saskatchewan, a town famous for producing rapeseed and honey.)
The album cover and the interior art feature digitally altered images of burned corpses from concentration camps which is a bit 😬. Granted early industrial music liked to flirt with Nazi imagery a lot. (As an aside Al Jourgensen was so adamant that this needed to be the album art despite his record company's wishes that he drove from Austin to LA to dump a deer head on the desk of the record label's art director and say "here is your fucking album cover." They went with Al's vision after that.)
Continuing with Nazi crap he includes samples of Nazi's seig heiling in the album's title track. This apparently backfired on him though.
According to Wikipedia "These chants are used ironically in the song, which is anti-fascist, and the band gave context to the Nazi chants by ranting about political issues during concerts.[33] This was still misinterpreted by white power skinheads as the band's support for Nazism. Jourgensen said the band jumped into the crowd and fought the skinheads, but rumors persisted that the band was fascist.[34]"
Finally he has a track titled "Hizbollah" with a sample of a Lebanese singer which is also pretty cringe.
Still consider this basically a perfect album and can forgive a lot of the edginess since this came out in 1988.
