To help Alby test out their new wallet stuff I’ve drained my Alby wallet and will only be using it with my own node going forward so any sats received from apps that use Alby will be sent from my ow...

Good luck. I entirely gave up with LN and zapping after trying to make this work. Repeated tries failed.

Alby wanted to "schedule a call" for tech support like some shitcoin company and wouldn't just explain it in public NOSTR discussion. Despite my request to do so - so others could reference it.

Their webpage to set this up is a 404 ( well it was at the time - I don't care to check now).

LN and zapping only *really* work custodially unless you are cool with paying a huge friction & time vigilance tax.

Expensive novelties are not my bag.

Hey nostr:npub1t269r8tlqxaxt8wmrdegftgjnvqufpxpas4ldye4h6fyrumy878skjykcd sorry and please be understanding! Lots of Nostr messages get lost and indeed - many support issues require conversation over e-mail. Offering a videocall and commiting time for you was actually a good will from our side - do...

It’s awesome. Im moving my notes there, Notion is giving me the creeps. I love that you can have it be private enough with encrypted syncs? Such a beautiful tool.

It's a bit of chicken and egg. If someone hasn't seen the "magic" and only sees a massive technical discussion focused on why it's not working.... they'll never try it. And subsequently will have no reason to later advocate for better solutions. Someone presented with this might write off bitcoin al...

Even with wos gone, I think a large portion still occurs custodially. Mostly because non custodial solutions aren't 100% seamless just yet. They exist and they work great most the time but they have t...

Custodians can only evade money transmitter regulations so long. That's the main concern in my opinion.

I have given up on sovereign LN. So many frustrations and failures in my many concerted attempts. Years of efforts. Hours upon hours of my scant free time did not end well spent.

Tired of the cheerleading in the context of reality-based feasibility of LN as a solution.

2019/2020: "you can run a sovereign LN node with a raspi!"

You can see how ridiculous and misleading that was now. But some could have resolved to messagemore appropriately from the outset.

I see a parallel phenomenon happening here on NOSTR with zaps.

Yeah that's a fair point. That's why wos left the USA, too big of a target on their back. I think there is a solution to be had, though I don't know what it is. I hear CLN is much more reliable than LND. Could be something there. In any case, we are (relatively speaking) early days still and I do ...

Even with wos gone, I think a large portion still occurs custodially. Mostly because non custodial solutions aren't 100% seamless just yet. They exist and they work great most the time but they have to work great pretty much all the time to see wider adoption. This is probably the case even within t...

Have just concluded my third attempt in 3 years to run pleb LN. You haven't even mentioned the software problems which lead to channel closure (whoops, the app is just gone! It was there yesterday!)

The message arrived 3 years too late.

At least @ODELL is pushing back in this episode against whether plebs "SHOULD" pursue certain technical paths. Over the years I have noticed those with developer type brains generally fail to place themselves into the shoes of people without their capabilities, and they obscure and gloss over super important details which would under-sell their perspectives.

Running LN is such an example. Had I heard this episode in 2020 I would have avoided it entirely... as well as running a node on a RasPi (again, you CAN but probably SHOULDN'T).
