Perhaps he's asking if these tools are creating "sane" meshes now? Results from automated tools are generally meshes that contain an absurd amount of tri's, which are resource intensive and lead to messy or unworkable rigging/ artifacts.

I haven't played with too much 3d modeling/ rendering as of yet, so I don't know a whole lot on this other than the anecdotes I have seen in passing.
