@oldkid I would like to work on the group pages and see if they can be improved and see what data is available. But I can't display a group page in my local ddev dockerized environment.

I can "follow" various real accounts and then run the worker to import their posts. But I get the posts without images. I haven't managed to populate a group, neither "fake" nor "real". 🤔

If one wants to work on the CSS and Javascript one would want to have all the code on ones local machine. One doesn't want to live code on the server.

Is no-one copying production data down to their local machine? I can see it becomes difficult over time, with lots of posts and images.

Maybe one should connect to the productioin DB and media files from localhost and also manipulate the hosts file locally to send the requests to your production domain to localhost while working. The problem is that you tend to prefer to configure the MariaDB to only be accessible via locally on the server.

This is a tough one... I can't find a reasonable setup for development environment.

The reason I asked where to discuss feature and prodiuct decisions, is that I would like to suggest that bookface is the new default for Friendica. Keep the other ui by all means, but make bookface the predefined default.

Is there no mechanism in friendica to see that someone replied? I saw this reply by accident when i was using my mastodon.social account and looked at my friendica user from there.

@Random Penguin I saw some dismissing sweeping opinions about compact view should not be too similar to Mastodon. Why not?

But without having thought it through properly, i'd venture saying you want the original post, potentially abbreviated, and then the most recent reply.

@Random Penguin I'm curious to see and understand what that compact view does. I liked the sound of what your suggestion did.

Thats a major thing i struggle with in Friendica (mobile first, bookface), that a single post with comments take up several screens of scrolling and then you give up and switch back to mastodon.

Another thing i struggle with is – it seems you dont get notified when someone interacts with your posts (likes, replies). You find out by accident or not at all.

Leave the open issues on Microsoft Github and start new issues instead. Sounds more like there are individuaks with other reasons for not wanting to move from big brother. There are no practical reasons against a move.

@hypolite i don't see why we must keep everything that was ever done sice 2010.

The Microsoft Copilot repo can still be there as a historic archive. But going forward we can work with the existing git repo on a free platform and escape the clutches of Big tech and surveillance. But obviously others don't agree and I'm a new nobody in the Friendica community, so I will have to live with that.

It's just I feel super uncomfortable having to use Microsoft Copilot and have them register my every move. It's so contrary to what the Friendica project is about to force developers into Microsofts surveillance clutches.

Yes, I see . But I think the MIcrosoft repo can stay there as an archive and a historic document. But we can still move the repo over and just keep working in a new space free from surveillance capitalism. I hobestly don't see why everything since 2010 must be moved. It's enough to move the repo.

But obviously the others see it differently, which is fine. Only I feel super uncomfortable using Microsoft and have them record and map whatever I do.
