I sat through a work presentation about AI and one of the illustrations was similar to this.

Now I'm no computer toucher, but I imagine intelligent robots probably wouldn't need an external laptop.

New village weirdness just dropped. Locals fed up with people speeding through our village, and the council seemingly thinking that just putting up new speed limit signs is going to stop it; have taken matters into their own hands.

We now have a semi hidden mannequin in high Viz gear, sporting a cardboard speed gun as a deterrent. When you live in the country, seemingly scarecrows are still the height of preventative technology.

I mean no offence, and I have been to Blackpool many times in my life so this is not a casual observation, but it is a haven for people who enjoy one, some, or all of the following (in approximate order)

Alcohol
Saturated fat
Shouting
Sugar
Karaoke

The Fedi/Mastodon is revelatory, I love it, but the emotional weight is greater and very different.

Honesty is powerful. I'm not even going to talk about Instagram or Facebook, but Twitter was/is a combative place, even if you are passive. Here it's completely different, many people are very open, myself included to a degree, which is refreshing and a welcome humanising of social media, but with that comes with it's own challenges.

I care about people. People share their physical, emotional and psychological struggles here. I empathise, I try to understand and support folks as best I can with my level of understanding. It's a lot though. I'm out of my depth frequently, I want to help but don't have a clue how to, and don't want to say something stupid or insensitive, no matter how well intentioned. But at the same time, I don't want to stay silent, because I want you to know I care.

Often a "like/⭐" means I hear you but have no useful words. It feels lame, but it's probably better than what my awkward brain will come up with as a reply.

An exchange in the last couple of days touched me. I mentioned it to Mrs B and as I read one message out my chin went, my voice broke and my eyes filled.

It's different here, but it's a new (but much better) set of challenges.

Youngest has been telling me about an acquaintance that, on Snapchat and TikTok, is giving off, to me, a lot of incel vibes.

Not dangerous or really repulsive, just a bit self pitying and pathetic, blaming girls for not liking him but at the same time being very open to any sympathy from ladies.

He managed to pick up a girlfriend, get dumped and get back together, in the space of 36 hours apparently. Drama 😂

She seems very similar and I'm wondering if "Spincel" might also be a thing.

I'm too old for the young folks drama but it's fascinating, I won't lie.
