I feel the important bit is that it transfers the onus from Tovards to the contributors.

Ethical and environmental questions aside¹, the problem with LLM's is users who outsource their thinking, leaving others to verify usability. As verification is 90% of the work, the end-result is glorifying those who offload their work not just LLM's, but their colleagues.

Now if the code is bad (and LLM code usually is), it's the coder who's bad.

That person writes with the sole intention of hurting. If they hadn't used AI as their weapon of choice, it would have been something else.

Worth noting that the campaign not only encouraged people quit ChatGpt, but also:

- encourage people keep going without
- encourage people to consider alternative services
- encourage alternative services to consider higher value for "the bottom" they're racing toward.

So while the campaign is aimed on those who subscribe, they're not the only group spoken to.

In Finland, if a petition gets 50 000 signatures, the parliament is obliged to discuss the topic and vote should legislation on the topic be adjusted.

This particular petition, launched very recently, is collecting signatures for cause billed as "Digital Independence". Basically 92% of state digital infrastructure is dependent on US companies, and hence on Trump's moods. The petition wants to use open and/or European software instead.

In case this isn't clear for everyone, let it be said that the "victims" in the quote doesn't refer to the underaged children forced to do sex work, but the poor people who Epstein blackmailed for using his services.
