The consensus seems to be that yes, this is broken, and no, there's not really any way around it for the moment. Also no, nobody's really fixing it.
i want to, #Linux enthusiasts, I really, really do. But it's exactly this kind of thing that make me entirely unable to consider any Linux flavor as an OS I could be productive in, heck ... that I could get light usage out of. When it comes to #accessibility stuff either breaks and stays broken for years or even longer, or never worked well to begin with. I know there's efforts on their way to fix that, and all the respect, gratitude and solidarity with the people doing that no doubt thankless, against-the-current work, but as of right now there's just not enough here for me to warrant the gigantic effort and investment to get anything usable out of it that actually stays usable longterm.

Personally, I feel it's the language :P Making a sentence where everything agrees with each other and where you still get to play fast and loose with word order AND mostly have it make sense to the listener must be some kind of micro-dopamine hit every time it happens haha

I do feel I need to nuance that this isn't aimed at "just" anyone (yeah, yeah, I'll cut out the just thing). The underlying thought is true though: People, particularly a subset of the #fedi, are VERY quik to tell people to "just XYZ". #accessibility aside this is almost never a "just" to the person you're talking to, and the person in question is going to get their feathers ruffled by you indicating what they may have actually already tried to do, for days, is a "just" to you. Feel the urge to tell someone to "just" do something? Stop, think, and maybe just don't. ALl you gotta do is just think from somebody else's perspective for a change. nNothin' to it, right?

I am getting really tired of that word 'Just" in these kinds of rants. For a huge amount of people, there's no such thing as "just switch", because in a lot of cases these people are considered "just" a minority that are "just" so difficult to keep in mind when developing these alternatives, I bet I only "just" made you think of them again "just" now. So with all due respect, kindly "just" f*ck off telling me what I should "Just" switch to until #accessibility actually "just" works. Until then, "just" do better at being "just". Ok? Can we do that?
This coming from "just" another #accessibility professional who sometimes "just" gets a little tired of bringing it nice and polite and "just" wants to tell people to "just" feckin' follow the myriad accessibility standards that have only existed for, I dunno ... "just" a couple of decades?
