Most users sign up using the primal app because it's the only one that advertises itself on other platforms.
If people select any of the interests when signing up on that app they automatically follow all the primal influencers (hodl corndalorian Odell etc.)
Apart from that you have the active Devs working on nostr related stuff who could be called influencers and some people who like you suggested brought their followers over from legacy social media platforms.
