genuine question #nostr tribe: Is it an American custom to sue every little things in civil case? The amount they are claiming sometimes is less than $250 - $500. Doesn't that cost solicitor/lawyer'...

Judge Judy is fake court, real judge but it’s more like a binding mediation and since it’s a tv show the costs are different if at all. That said, yes people sue over stupid shit, but in small amount we have courts called “small claims” courts that are ostensibly designed so people don’t need lawyers, but yes we are very litigious and petty. FWIW, I probably couldn’t afford my own law firm if I was in a big litigation. So big and small litigation is expensive and the system is broken.

I should add unlike most of the commonwealth countries, the general rule is parties pay their own fees unless there is a statute or contract that shifts the fees to the loser so people aren’t automatically on the hook for the burden it puts on the other side.

omg... 😱 that explains...ty. I mean fair play to the US people. You guys are tenacious when it comes to lawsuits and the stress that come with it 😬 UK is different. I don't believe British culture enjoy lawsuit — not in my circle at least. nostr:nprofile1qqsv0l5jlqx9zmqv2jc4arf9dtq89qgrdkf5a...
