You have two qualifiers here: married and home ownership. I think the marriage factor alone is a big part of this. Simply, young people aren't marrying, thus they cannot be married and homeowners (regardless of any voting or economic situation).
Percent married at age 30.
1950: 80-85%
1960: 85-90%
1970: 80-90%
1980: 70-80%
1990: 60-70%
2000: 50-60%
2010: 40-50%
2020: 30-40%
2025: 25-40%
