Was just pondering things and my ponderer pondered why there are not little RaspberryPI boxes (or whatever HW) that are literally plug and pray Nostr relays. Like just set this little guy on your desk...

The problem with this is the fact that relays need domain names and have to be accessed from the external internet.

I guess you could have a "relay" that is just your personal backup thing or something like that. There is value in this, but only for power users, and not that much even, I think.

I vibed a service that provision a small relay with 1gb of storage and a subdomain. Did not deploy it yet, it’s almost ready, I just need to test a couple of things. I would guess that technically works even for distributed raspberry pi’s. Might require a little more coding to be true plug a...

For decades, people did ridiculous things to make satellite television work. Climbing on the roof of their homes with a compass, cutting down tree limbs, etc. Even at its peak "easiness", it still involved a technician climbing on the roof and 15 minutes of pushing buttons on a remote control.

Is that a hard requirement? Or would something like tailscale work, or simply IP?

Domains are the browser tax. Nostr can route around a lot, but web clients keep dragging sovereignty back into DNS paperwork.
