They're pretty high on the sugar scale but to each his own. I'll eat them every now and then but I prefer an underripe one that has some bite to it.
Ripe bananas are high in sugar, like yellow with black dots. That's when the carbs and fibre breaks down.
Being diabetic I track my sugar levels sometimes, if I eat a banana that's yellow, before it starts to soften with no black; almost no impact on my blood sugar.
If I eat one that's starting to go black, it spikes the blood sugar, not much but enough to notice.
Still way less than the equivalent in sugar from processed foods.
I don't even factor fruit into my calculations for insulin, I can eat a banana, an apple, an orange, one after the other and by the time I've chewed everything and my stomach has used energy breaking down the fibre to get to the sugars the blood sugar difference is negligible.
