That said, it also feels a bit like it's going through the motions. Maybe it's a drawback to have heard these stories in so many forms before. "Ok, now we're at Polyphemos's island, time for that scene". I can't put my finger on it, but while some moments had strong emotional beats, some also felt like burning time. Not filling time, the movie is not longer than it needs to be, but something else, transport between the heartfelt scenes.

My strongest word in support of the movie is that it did make me curious about the source material -- I have it all through cultural osmosis in broad strokes, but we get to know more about several characters, and now I'm curious how much of that is Nolan and Co, and how much is straight from the original myths and from Homer.
