definitely get used to reading the labels. maltodextrin and glucose/fructose sugar are very common in snack foods. maltodextrin is absolutely toxic to nerves. i'm pretty sure (it's made from amylose starch usually) that it also contributes to not just diabetes, kidney and spleen problems, but also neuromuscular problems and eventually alzheimers. my oma died of it and my genetics from austro-indonesian, which will be a bit similar to yours, though being that rice is a staple in india, chances are high you have a lot of amylase genes. more you have, the better your system copes with sugars in general. for me, that's a really big problem, and it also notably contributes to the development of alcoholism, which i also suffer from, which is very common among low-sugar diet people in general in the whole region of the pacific. their traditional diets had maybe some tapioca, and a few other root veg like yams, generally cooked by boiling or roasting over fire.
