i’ve taken up rowing as my secondary exercise to complement my primary of walking. it’s full body, low impact, meditative, and actually useful.

I would recommend an exercise with a philosophy behind it. Then you don't only train your body but simultaneously your mind, your human genius. I do Kung Fu (Wushu Sanda, Tai Chi, ...) but there are many more such as Jiu Jitsu and Yoga. The most important thing is to find a school with a wise master, not merely a trainer or martial artist.
