Yes, DAOs were supposed to be unstoppable "companies" that lived on the Blockchain and coordinated economic activity among multiple independent actors in a way that was impossible for States to control.

Instead, we got monkey JPEGs and Fartcoin. 😩

I still follow various DAO projects, particularly in DeSci -- stuff like CryoDAO, ResearchHub, etc -- but these are difficult to call "DAO's" in what I understand to be the original meaning of that term.
