To make sure, that you have the correct seed as well as the correct passphrase. If both is ok you should see the amount of the test send you did before in your wallet.

I still do not comprehend--and this is most likely due to not having practiced any of this. So does wiping it or resetting it not mean you have to create a new seed and passphrase or does it mean something else. I mean, if it is only a test, why go through setting up a new seed and passphrase again....

Exactly. To make sure the HW works and the seed and passphrase too. Nothing worse than transferring all funds and then not able to spend it. Actually you even should send a small amount away from the new wallet, to see if it works.
