Does this hold true under quantum? Yes, I understand the FUD that quantum computing currently is however let’s suspend that reality for a moment…

Say we wake up tmw and quantum computing has been solved. You’ve got a 128bit seed and I’ve got a 256bit seed… is one of us in an urgent rush to upgrade their set up and the other calmly going about their day? Or are both of us in the same predicament because of SHA-256 real collision security?

As I understand it ECDSA is broken by Quantum, not weakened. One can derive the private key from the public regardless of how much entropy you’ve included within the private key.

I’ve been a 12 word proponent until now, based on a ‘trust me bro’ understanding. … maybe it is my lack of understanding in the difference between 258bit entropy and SHA-256 real collision security. I’ll look into it. 👍

lol…. I truly do not understand. Maybe they’ve never tried?
Turtlesallthewaydown⚡️ profile picture
These are people that have tried and have created their own entropy using dice, pills or cards.

Maybe they don’t understand that when they sit as a ‘panel of experts’ in front of an audience… the 12 years of indoctrination most of us have been subjected to, teaches us to outsource our trust and thinking to them.

Maybe they don’t understand that 24words is orders of magnitude greater than 12words. As I’m also sick of hearing there is practically no benefit in 24words over 12words and 12words is ‘good enough’. This maybe true in a multisig as an attacker needs 24words (2 x 12) but in a single sig 24words is quantum resistant and 12words is not.

12 words plus quantum is theorised to make the 128bit entropy as hackable 64bit entropy is now. Difficult but not impossible.

Apologies for the rant, feeling a bit frustrated over the shared opinions from last night… which if followed lands noobs straight back in the “don’t verify, trust” paradigm. Screw that! How’s that working out for the world?

Don’t let a firmware dictate your fate,
Roll your own dice before it’s too late.
If the device makes the seed alone,
The coins you hold are not your own.

It’s time to meme this into everyone’s consciousness.

I’m still pissed, I was at a Bitcoin meetup last night, within a week of the ColdCard fuck up and I sat their completely flawed as some excellent humans and Bitcoiners told the audience: ‘moving forward, it is ‘probably ok’ to trust device generated entropy’. Their rationale: “expecting new people to roll their own entropy was too much inconvenience and would not scale to 8 billion people”. I understand their point. However, what happened to, “Don’t trust, verify”?

I’m not sure about anyone else, but I definitely did not get into Bitcoin for its ‘convenience’.

I’m gobsmacked to have to ask, after the week we’ve just had, “Did we learn nothing?”

If you are securing meaningful amounts of your life energy in Bitcoin, please take 10 minutes of your time, to generate your own random seed phrase. The months, years or decades of stored energy you are securing is worth 10minutes of your focused attention.

Hey Michael, you did reply, twice.

Yeah, Pete is great however, as would be expected from his chosen career, everything I’ve heard him say feels strongly based in his fiat paradigm.

Not a criticism… it’s extremely hard to extract oneself from our existing paradigms… particularly those paradigms shared by the people around us.

It’s going to be awesome weather in Palm Cove this weekend. Sunny and 26 degrees. Are you heading up for the bush bash?

Hi, apologies if this question is asinine but can you please explain the decline in supply from Epoch 0 to Epoch 1 and what exactly is Epoch 0?

If I’m interpreting correctly you are suggesting a 2.41M pre-mine?
Or are you referring to ‘available supply’ not total supply?

Brendio · 4w
My interpretation of the graph is that it is showing Bitcoin supply by epoch in which it last moved I.e. utxo age. So 2.41 M of the 10.5M Epoch 0 BTC supply has not moved since the first halving.

You're just showing your own mental privilege. How insensitive of you to other people's innate ineptitude in carrying out simple tasks. Congrats on selling another shitcoin?

My ‘insensitivity’ is a feature not a bug. 😉

Thanks mate… and you can all (Bitcoin community at large) thank me for the recent rally… the universe seems to time these for whenever we get an injection of toilet paper money. I think it’s trying to teach me something but I haven’t yet worked out what. Patience? humility? … something?

Yeah I hear you, I think most of us have experienced this. I think you'll be over the moon with joy in a couple of years. The wait is the killer though.

Today I realised the reason I’m so untrusting of most people I come into contact with but more specifically of ‘professionals’ and ‘subject experts’ that are acting as service and skill providers for me as the client/customer.

My whole life I have flat out refused to accept that the average person i deal with is capable of such a high level of both general and specialised incompetence. I have always chosen to believe that this kind of incompetence is the exception, not the rule. However, utter incompetence by ‘experts’ is encountered so frequently, that with my first belief intact, the only viable conclusion is that the acts are intentional.

We are currently trying to finalise a contract. The 2 parties agreed on terms at 10am last Friday. It took the middleman 6hrs to delete 3 clauses and slightly modify wording in the remaining clause... (4 drafts to get these basic changes correct) The middleman is desperate to broker the deal so has been pushing hard for the contract to be signed. We got the green light from our legal team this morning (middleman in all their urgency failed to get the contract correct in time for the legal review on Friday… they had 4hrs).

Long weekend here so legal review has been completed this morning and we are now ready to sign. Green light given to the broker who sends through the original doc, prior to changes, for signing.🤦‍♂️ It’s got to be intentional… surely nobody can survive into adulthood with this level of incompetence?

THIS is the reason we MUST remove guard rails and warning signs from cliff tops.
