After yesterday’s original 1996 Toyota RAV4, today, for the purposes of comparison, we are looking at the current sixth-generation model, which I saw at the same event. It’s a larger vehicle of more mainstream/less adventurous design.

Yesterday, @nprofile1q... pointed out that folding metal roofs can be troublesome given their complexity. Here’s a car with a much simpler opening roof, a Nissan Figaro I saw locally recently - note the choice of registration plate. (1/3)

After I posted yesterday’s Infiniti Q30, @nprofile1q... mentioned how much less successful Nissan’s Infiniti was compared with Toyota’s premium brand Lexus - at least in Europe. This is the CT200h, the closest Lexus equivalent to the Q30. It used the hybrid technology of the contemporary Toyota Prius. I saw this one locally a week or two back.

Is there such a thing as a British-built Mercedes? This is one - sort of. Between 2015 and 2019, Nissan built this, the Infiniti Q30, which was basically a modified Mercedes A-Class, at its plant in Sunderland in the UK. Saw this one recently in my local station car park. Nissan withdrew its premium brand Infiniti from the UK in 2020. ‘Proper’ Mercedes vehicles built in the UK include Mercedes F1 cars and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.

As @nprofile1q... mentioned yesterday the Porsche 944’s already large (for a four-cylinder) 2.5-litre engine was later offered in even bigger 2.7 and 3.0-litre sizes. It was the 3.0 that was carried over to the last development of the 924 line, the 968 which received a similar nose design to the larger 928. The 968 was made from 1991 to 1995, a full twenty years after the launch of the base 924 design. Seen at Harpenden’s Cars on the Common this summer.
