What were you thinking of? I don't pay that much attention to him (his writing is painful) - but when I do I'm surprised by some of the details he has picked up on.

If nothing else, he seems to understand that if something looks complicated in finance - it's usually because someone is trying to either cover something up, or get away with something.

From a strategic standpoint, the US has no choice but to stay in the AI race. The potential payoff is too significant to ignore. If this technology delivers, even partially, the nation that masters it...

The US isn't in the AI race. The US is in the LLM race.

China is investing heavily in Machine Learning for industrial and logistics purposes. The money that was going into this in the US (which was mostly going into the FIRE sector), has been diverted to the chat bot sector.

Or to state it more bluntly: 'Ukraine would have lost in early 2022 without US support, and is only able to continue fighting so long as the US provides military assistance'. Ukraine is not an independent actor, and I don't think it helps anyone to pretend otherwise. The US provided military support to Ukraine because it helped the foreign policy of the US in that region.

Even with US support Ukraine is losing this war quite badly. They would have got a much better deal in 2022, they will get a far worse deal in 2026 and an absolutely terrible deal if/when their army collapses. At this point neither the west, or Ukraine, are in a very strong bargaining position.

When the 'international community' suggests a 'land for peace' deal (as may be likely part of Trump's 'negotiation' for peace in the Ukraine), its worth pointing out what that might if it was translat...

Given that N. Ireland should probably be ceded to Eire, and Scotland wants to be independent - I'm not sure this was the best analogy.

Though given the history of the civil war in the Donbas and the ethnic tensions that led up to it - maybe that would be a perfect analogy.

Trump is not forcing the Ukrainians to do anything. They can continue fighting without military support.
