@nprofile1q... It's really objectionable because TomTom's business was built on Linux but they refuse to give anything back to the community. I'm increasingly using OpenStreetMap instead of Google Maps too. The navigation works fairly well now.

I subscribed to OsmAnd Pro for my phone and it was great, but after a month it refused to renew and their support team couldn't figure out why, so I gave up. It...

@nprofile1q... I'm still having trouble with the TomTom SatNav they foisted on us last time. It stopped displaying the time a few weeks ago and updates depend on Windows which I soon won't have 'because Microsoft'. I don't want AI in anything.

#TIL that the DADGAD guitar tuning I've been trying out for a few days, though commonly known as traditional "Celtic" was, in fact, brought back from Morocco by Davy Graham in the 1960s, based on an oud tuning he heard there. He adapted to guitar then it was copied by many in the British Islands folk revival.
We invent so much of our 'shared cultural history' while simply stealing whatever we like from other cultures and hating what we don't like. "What did the Romans ever do for us?" :-)

@nprofile1q... Have they given up on Globalism? Wasn't "Buy British" what took us into Europe. A better political communicator would talk about reducing transportation costs with our choice of goods, to avoid sounding like an anti-woke, flag-wanging nationalist.

Today Ed Miliband will set out how he's going to shift the way renewable energy enters the wholesale markets as a way fo trying to reduce the impact of the gas price on the UK's energy market.... not ...
Andy Wootton profile picture
@nprofile1q... I think the problem is that renewables can't be relied upon to be there when needed, so we need gas to be. If gas generation has to compete fairly, companies will fail, so availability of generating capacity from fossil fuels needs to be rewarded, even though we really don't ever want to call on it. It's like a second car in many families. Market changes are always fraught. They may over-simplify for a fast result.
