Iran's position is good right now because their landscape is super defensive. Attacking the refineries and holding them in what's basically open desert is a different story.

As for funding the military, I imagine countries like South Korea might foot some of the bill for their own defense for the sake of safety.

Land, yes, but who is there to occupy that land and for what purpose? Crimea was annexed because it is a warm port that was at risk of becoming hostile. There are some ice free ports in the Baltics, but I have a feeling it's easier to deal with the Turkroaches and their canal. Occupation still needs your people to settle there. Below replacement rate, plus war losses, how would that even be possible this century?

As for the US falling, I'm not holding my breath. The USSR collapsed and look where we are now. The things that are done to US citizens currently are done by their own (supposedly) government. When it's a completely hostile nation taking over and even the most retarded normgroid can get the picture, the dynamic changes completely.

Even more, what's the use of a buffer state whose population is and always will be hostile to you? Even with Ukraine, there's no chance there's a will or a way to take any of the Westerns parts. Best case scenario for Russia is a landlocked rump state with the river running through Kiev as a demarcation line.

This isn't the 1950s, rolling through the steppes and swamps doesn't seems like a wise tactic to me with all the drones. Along with the population of any well to do country not wanting anything to do with war.

A lot experts in their respective areas will have their preferred dogmas that will be challenged only when they die. Science moves forward one corpse at a time and all that.

In terms of general opinions, there are always aspects of the past that prevent you from a having a completely distinct worldview. In the 90s, there was still a leftover chunk of the social contract between man and government and you could still remember farther back when it was more true.

Boomers hatred has very specific reasons because it was a bit of a watershed moment. Anyway, unless in 30 years we'll metagame away the being human part completely and become some kind of network-enabled bug hive, saying "wow, people X years back were dumb" is retarded social posturing and always will be.
