You should probably look into Vipassana meditation @Lyn Alden. It is said to be the Buddhas original teaching; a non religious, very simple technique for understanding reality as it is. Don't be scammed though – first encounter is, for a reason, a ten day course, and only the real and genuine places offer it for free.
