The thing about Trump's East Wing Dance Hall is not that he's ignoring norms and traditions, avoiding review committees, and not seeking congressional approval, necessary regardless of who is paying to build an American asset on federally-owned real estate in DC.

The startling thing is this is how Trump built all his properties: without much planning, let alone complete drawings and approvals. He told his buyers their condos were built to spec before he broke ground.

One reason for the quality of universities in the UK is their openness to foreign students. It may have originated as an artifact of empire. It continued because it worked: it attracted top foreign talent, from the wealth elite and the hopes of small towns across the globe.

Since Thatcher, foreign students have paid significantly more than domestic students, income that universities have come to rely on as a substitute for support Parliament has withdrawn.

The airline went from being the *least* enshittified airline in America to the *most*. Southwest is now worse than Spirit airlines - no, really. Southwest doesn't just merely charge for seat selection...

My favorite anecdote about comeuppance for airline execs is that on New Year's Eve 1999, at the witching hour for the Y2K scare, the Chinese govt made the top execs of its state airlines be on one of their aircraft and in the air from 11.00 pm to 1.00 am. It was an incentive to make sure they had sorted out any Y2K bugs.

If only something similar could be sorted out for scores of top American airline execs. Their policies might not be so rapacious.

Our captains of industry have never forgiven society for taking away their preferred slave labor options. Sinister bastards, aren't they? "Prisoners in the US are part of a hidden workforce linked t...

Prison labor is an explicit exception to the constitutional prohibition on slavery. Presumably, southern state senators had a hand in crafting that exception.

Their peers crafted state criminal justice systems around finding their Black citizens guilty of a slew of special purpose crimes, to populate state prisons and their prison labor systems, which were quite lucrative. And still are.

Now we learn that the Iranian ship torpedoed by an American submarine was defenseless. A requirement for participating in regional exercises. The US was scheduled to participate in them, too, but withdrew at the last minute.

The American navy needlessly sank a vessel that was no threat -- and apparently refused to render aid to survivors.

That submarine commander and his chain of command are in serious legal jeopardy. It happens to everyone who works for Donald J. Trump.
