@nprofile1q... Have you read ๅ—ๆŸฏ่ฎฐ (Nรกn kฤ“ jรฌ or Dream Under the Southern Bough) by Tang Xianzu? It's a play from 1600 that tells the story of a disgraced soldier who becomes a monk by way of being taken to a kingdom of ants where he rises to one of the princes.

There's a few good translations of it out there, as well as a novel version of it (in translation) available.

When I had them all my location was southern Germany near the Swiss border. My current location is central China. Of the European ones, I've always had a soft spot for the German cards.

Every one of those blue books on that shelf are collections of folk tales from Chinese minorities from the Wuhan University Press translated into modern vernacular Chinese and English both. @nprofile1q... You should see what the various "Chinese" tarot decks are like. I think I've seen precisely one that actually attempted to use matching symbolism (the Dragon/Long deck) ... and that was iffy.

The rest were basically "find Chinese paintings from thousands of years apart and give them a tarot name".
