Climbing back from a trip abroad

Defeated the Whoop with a 100% sleep score! Finally

Took me the following:

Consistent sleep schedule for 6 days in a row

~18k steps per day on average w/ lots of exercise (runs, walks, lifting, surfing)

No alcohol or dessert, minimal sugar during day, no food after 730pm

No caffeine after 1pm

Red screen on phone after 830pm

Read non-screen or crossword puzzle in bed until drowsy

Magnesium glycinate before bed

In bed by 945pm, up at 615am

What sleep score means: a bunch of stuff, but basically very low resting heart rate and high HRV (for me)

Feeling incredible

Is it sustainable? I travel a lot and occasionally like to enjoy alcohol with special dinners now so, no

But a good goal

Incredible what alcohol and night-time sugar do to my sleep and related metrics. They drop like a rock 😂

That’s why I don’t love the Whoop. It basically shames you into removing all social or “enjoyable” activity. While we shouldn’t be doing those activities every night, I think the Whoop now makes it easier to decline friends or otherwise enjoyable activities to preserve a number on a scree...

What sleep app do you use? Advancing age has me following many of the same protocols.

Curious to know if you had any dreams during that time or if your dream experience changed as a result of making those changes??

Currently trying to increase my HRV and lower resting heart rate...based on this I need to increase my cardio side of my movement

Once you start optimizing every small thing throws your sleep off 🤣 now when I travel even lower quality air in a hotel room makes me sleep like shit

Made me feel like a loser but to consistently get a good Whoop sleep score I had to do no caffeine after 10am. Weirdly nicotine until 1pm was fine.

Some good tips here. Think I’ll adapt my routine to improve my sleep. Hardest part is having teenagers that want to talk during the late hours of the evening. 🤣

The irony of needing this level of protocol discipline just to do something your body evolved to do automatically. Civilization is a sleep debt with compound interest.
