@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... The average annual inflation used to be about 1.4%. My take is that if you don't get a raise at least commensurate with inflation, you're taking a pay cut. I had a boss tell me one year that I wasn't getting a pay raise for reasons I won't get into. I explained this concept to him and that if he moved forward with his plan, I was looking for a job. I got my raise.

I have no idea what the announced all inflation rate is these days. I imagine it is higher than 1.4%.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... Another personal rule is to never take a counteroffer. I never have but I watched others do it. I've never seen it last long term. Eventually that person was gone. It changes your relationship with your employer when you were going to leave and you were leaving for a reason and it probably wasn't just your salary.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... My personal rule is to not discuss it with others. First of all, I'm older, have had decades of raises so a young person is most likely going to be the loser in the comparison. Either way, there's a loser and I don't want it to be me. The way I see it, it's none if their business. We all came to our employment with a deal and we were happy enough with the deal to stay. If you're unhappy, find a better deal.

@nprofile1q... I lived in Sicily in the 1980s. I loved the place and the people. The food was magnificent. The base I worked at in Comiso is now an airport. There are also airports in Palermo and Catania. They have mountains, beaches and wonderful scenery. I have no idea what tech community is there now. It seemed like the pace was slower there than on the mainland. Also, you're on an island. Island fever is a thing.

My phone wants me to update to Android 17. I'm trying to decide if I want to go through the pain of updating and having to turn off all the AI crap.

@nprofile1q... That's something I don't worry about anymore now that I run Lineage again. They let me know an update is available but I decide if and when it will be installed. One thing I hated about samsung phones was that, eventually, they forced you to update. It normally happened to me at the most inopportune time.
