I've had it take over completely, there was this doujin (that I've been looking for ever since) that I started because I was horny, but then I just kept reading it because I wanted to see what happened with the characters, it was this guy who was a lolicon who happened to lock eyes with a loli who can read the minds of anyone who looks into her eyes and she chooses to save him by being with him because he's tormented by his feelings. Good story.

My wife and I occasionally RP sexual stuff between characters and we run into this problem where we create characters for a brief sexual story, but then we always end up expanding them so much that it takes a long time to get to the sexual part lol. We love characters, motivations, and stories, we WANT it to feel lived in and real and experienced you know?

@nprofile1q... Aftercare is so important, and frankly its sweet sometimes, I don't know why depictions cut it out...

But its more rooted in reality in that its a Japanese girl in HS, oh and the beastpeople are typically way stronger than humans but there's only like 3000 of them or something so its a much smaller group, there isn't the whole shonen actiony angle of Beastars, no predation as a concept.

@nprofile1q... I think you might find the anime/manga "With you, our love will make it through". Its about a highschool girl who falls for a "beastman" classmate, essentially an anthro dog. It does get pretty horny really quickly though, not that I think you'd mind but it is worth mentioning.
