@nprofile1q... I did a 180 in writing this reply. I started with “Fuck it, I’ll judge for the both of us”. But the more I thought about it, the less that felt right. There are countless awesome single parent families. If they made this decision with a clear acceptance that she will be a single Mom, then that’s completely ok. I don’t judge women who choose to have a donor (spermbank etc) baby, so why here? Families come in many varieties. They get to enjoy their kiddo for hopefully a few years together and then she hopefully continues being an awesome single mom, or gets a new (hopefully good) partner.

Yip, total 180 and the above is preaching directly at my own closed minded gut reaction.

@nprofile1q... You also omitted an important aspect of this: unmet targets mean lower performance bonuses, so a (perceived*!) win for the company’s bottom line.

*perceived, because it doesn’t factor in lower morale which leads to lower performance and higher turnover.

@nprofile1q... Applying it to every vehicle is stupid -- like the article said, that's double taxing. But applying it to EVs makes sense, to make up for the lost income from fuel duties.

Just don't do what Texas has done, where they are effectively punishing EV owners by charging us a LOT more that the equivalent we would've paid for the same amount of miles in an ICE car. Typical fossil fuel industry bullshit.

@nprofile1q... Billion was just a random example. My point was that it’s a word where 2 countries had different definitions for it, but over a relatively short time, it (again: mostly) standardized onto one of the two meanings.

Wonder how much this will happen, now that everyone has instant access to eveyone else’s spoken language on a regular basis.

(Another example: In the 90s geeks in SA loved to say Lie-nix or Lie-nux, but over time, you heard that less & less, and now most have adopted the international Lih-nucks)

@nprofile1q... What will be interesting to see in 200 or so years is whether there was any kind of global homogenization that happened over time (per language, I mean). With global tv, movies, social media videos, youtube, as well has increased global migrations, whether any standardization in words, phrases, pronunciations, etc happened and how much. Compared to the 200 years leading up to maybe 40 or 50 years ago (when global *verbal* comms was non-existent or limited). One example: how the UK and the US had different definitions of “billion” but in common use, one has now mostly prevailed.

@nprofile1q... Ah interesting! No, that's not J1772.

Reading up, it's the IEC 62196 standard, and the type 2 variant thereof. In the US we use type 1 (which is J1772) of that standard. Type 2 (aka "Mennekes") is common in Europe, and seems SA has chosen it. (We also have CCS1 and you have CCS2)

Standardization, eh? Who needs it!? lol

Here is a table. Showing the various options.
